EUKHOST - ISP Review
This is a personal view and not related to tourism company I am a director of.
A personal message from our MD UPDATED: 24 April 2011
Beware this ISP company - in fact don't use them at all
We have 3 servers with them . A Windows dedicated server in the USA, a Windows dedicated server in the UK and a Linux dedicated server.
The EUKHOST Windows UK server acts as a database server for the sites on all the other servers. We had the Unix server on the same rack, behind the same switch, as the database server to get a faster connection using a local network IP address.
Ended up with loads of "timeouts" the Unix box continually failed to connect to the database server - even though it was only one hop away.
What a joke EUKHOST is - they even started to ignore emails and deadlines for fixing the problem I guess they have never heard of network monitoring. Also be aware they do not protect EUKHOST dedicated IP's.
If they give you a dedicated IP some clown at another registrar can point his site A records at your IP address
. That's after they hack your htacess to divert all your traffic to their sites EUKHOST knew of the issue in February - as it's on their forums .
Action taken by EUKHOSTS - nothing - so we had exactly the same problem in March !
Discovered it in April as the hacked htaccess file was hacked incorrectly.
We asked for a new dedicated IP address - guess what they gave us the same one again ! Another day getting a proper new set.
Result: hours and hours of site downtime.
How much has all this cost us ? thousands of pounds in lost revenue, thousands of potential customers, hundreds of Google positions lost, hundreds of hours of management and tech team time, loads of site and page unreachable errors on Google Webmaster tools.
Now you may be thinking, ahh bad coding, nope, when we had the site on a Unix box with another ISP in Germany - no problems connecting to the EUKHOST database server then.
The final straw was when they said the EUKHOST MD will call me in the morning - guess what he didn't.
Even emailed him john@eukhost.com
UPDATE:
It is appears they are using crossover cables to connect the two servers rather than using a managed switch
Now they say the connection is saturated - now they don't
Test pages from outside their network work OK -

VisitBritain closes Business tourism department
Hot off the press - so to speak - we understand that the WHOLE team at VisitBritain business tourism are facing the chop.
This includes Simon Mills , who has only been there a year, joining the soon to be defunct team in 2010 from the Hong Kong Tourism Board in London. We feel sorry for him and his team - probably promised so much yet given so little.
Hold on - is not London hosting the Olympics soon - is not that an event ideal for getting business leaders into the UK ?
Cut backs are one thing - stupidity is another.
If VisitBritain stopped trying to sale and actually market it would be an improvement - selling is best left to commercial companies - not Government quangos.

VisitBritain closes London Visitor Centre
With VisitBritain closing their London Visitor Center in Lower Regent Street it ends any physical place for tourists to go for information in central London.
It just leaves the City Of London centre by St Paul's Cathedral, run by the City of London Corporation.
Also to close are 13 offices in places like New Zealand - a traditional place for thousands of visitors to the UK.
Yet Visit Britain are happy to redesign the VisitBritain website and EnjoyEngland website, spending millions of pounds in public funding .
No guys, the foreign visitor to the UK needs somewhere to pop-in and ask, your websites don't even appear on Google searches, so you have to spend more public funds on paying for Google adverts.
Why not just give some public funds to sites like http://www.touruk.co.uk/ who have better search engine presence than you at a cost of ZERO to public funds.
